Visual Appeal
By
using a unique manufacturing process, combined with
ideal materials for dental CCD imaging and a small
pixel size, the Bio-Ray SDX intraoral digital x-ray
system offers optimal resolution and image quality.
Its advanced-technology features include a
needle-structure scintillator and a fiber optic
plate.
The
system’s CCD is engineered with a process that
produces a CCD with little or no blemishes. The
near-flawless CCD requires no correction file
(software that fixes defects in hardware). As a
result, hardware performance is greatly improved.
With no correction file, your sensor will be ready
instantly. More importantly, you won’t have to worry
about your sensor timing out during the capture
process. Eliminating the need for a correction file
also improves workflow with multiple sensors. The
system’s needle-structure scintillator helps focus
photons in a straight, downward fashion, eliminating
unwanted scatter. (The purpose of a scintillator is
to convert x-rays to light. For a microscopic view
of a needle-structure scintillator, see the
illustration, bottom right.)
The
system’s fiber optic plate improves image quality by
stopping non-converted x-rays from interacting
directly with the CCD. This, in return, eliminates
unwanted noise in the signal. The plate also helps
to focus the photons and apply them to the CCD in an
even fashion.
Scintillator-CCD
Detector
Schematic of a
Scintillator-CCD. Incident x-ray photons interact
with a needle-structure scintillator, where they are
absorbed, and light photons are emitted. Light
photons then enter the fiber optic plate and are
carried to the CCD where they are detected and
converted to electrons.
Needle-structure
scintillator
A
needle-structure scintillator eliminates unwanted
scatter as it converts x-rays to light. The
illustration shows the emission spectra, decay, and
x-ray absorption coefficient characteristics of a
needle structure scintillator.
