Important Information on Handpiece Maintenance

Is your handpiece lubricant causing your handpieces to freeze up prematurely?
Some lubricants break down in autoclave leaving a residue build up on the bearings causing them to freeze up or run sluggish.
Try using a High Temperature Autoclavable Handpiece lubricant like "STER-L".

How do I Clean & Maintain Handpieces

Between Patient Handpiece Maintenance
  Lubricate Handpiece

Place 2-3 drops of oil into the intake tube located at the bottom of the handpiece. Then operate the handpiece, with a bur installed, for approximately 10 seconds to expell the oil through and out of the handpiece. Doing this will flush the debris and contaminations from the handpiece. Warning: Operating the handpiece without a bur installed will result in premature chuck failure.

  Clean Exterior of Handpiece

Wipe down the exterior of handpiece with alcohol or distilled water. Remove gross contaminates with a fine wire brush. Do not use tap water or phosphate based soaps.

  Sterilize

Individually bag each handpiece for sterilization. Do not exceed 135C/275F. If using a chemical sterilizer, use clean chemicals. After cycle allow handpiece  to return to room temperature before use, do not operate that is hot to touch. Warning: Never leave a handpiece in the sterilizer overnight.

  Weekly Maintenance

Clean the chuck of the handpiece once a week. Spray handpiece cleaner up into the front of the chuck. Removing debris from the chuck assembly will prolong the life of the chuck.
